What is Rapé / Hapé?

Rapé, pronounced “ha-peh” or “rapay,” is a sacred and ceremonial snuff medicine originating from indigenous Amazonian cultures. It is legal and consists of a finely powdered mixture primarily made from tobacco, blended with a variety of medicinal plants, tree ashes, leaves, seeds, and other sacred substances found in the Amazon rainforest.

Traditionally administered through a blowpipe or by applying it to the nostrils with a special pipe called a “kuripe” or “tepi,” Rapé is deeply ingrained in spiritual and healing practices among indigenous tribes such as the Huni Kuin, Yawanawa, and Katukina. Each tribe has its unique recipes and methods for preparing Rapé, often incorporating plants known for their cleansing, grounding, and visionary properties.

The use of Rapé is believed to cleanse and purify the body, mind, and spirit, facilitating deep introspection, clarity of thought, and enhanced spiritual connection.

What can I expect from the Rapé experience?

After using Rapé, you may experience purging, such as vomiting, bowel movements, excess saliva, or sneezing. This is a normal response and indicates that negative energies, toxins, and illness are being released from your body. It is advisable to have a bucket, toilet tissue, and drinking water nearby to support this cleansing process.
